Q: How early should the butterfly release order be placed?

A: The earlier you order your live butterflies the better. This ensures that the butterflies can be raised with sufficient time for your special event. We suggest you place your order 45 days in advance. Larger orders (9 dozen butterflies or more) should be placed 60 days in advance. Although we do our best to have butterflies available for last-minute orders, the risk of not being able to accommodate you is greater.

Q: What amount of release butterflies do I need for an event?

A: The number of live butterflies you choose is a matter of preference and/or budget. Two dozen butterflies for every 50 persons is a good amount but the larger the number released, the more dramatic the effect.

Q: How will the release butterflies be shipped?

A: We ship your live butterflies via overnight delivery to arrive the day before your event. All butterflies are delivered in a specially designed, insulated container with a cold pack for a safe arrival. Inside the container will be dozens of elegantly designed triangular boxes holding a single adult live Monarch butterfly, which has been fed, packaged, and resting in a comfortable state. These individual butterfly release boxes protect and keep the butterfly calm and healthy while providing a safe storage place until the day of release. Store the live butterflies in the delivery package in a cool, dark area away from direct sunlight or other light source until shortly before your event.

Q: Conditions in which live butterflies can be released?

A: Temperatures must be above 60 degrees Fahrenheit and released between 10:00 a.m. until one hour before sunset. This allows the live butterflies a chance to find nectar and shelter before dark. Do not release butterflies indoors or during a strong rain.  Live butterflies can be released during mid-spring through late fall, depending on the temperature of the event area.

Q: What is an individual butterfly release?

A: Live butterflies are carefully packaged in individual triangular boxes to be distributed and released by your guests. The following is a popular ancient Indian Legend that can be used as a special wish: "Whisper a wish upon the wings of a butterfly Let it soar to the sky to be granted by the Great Creator up high."

Q: Are the release butterflies harmed?

A: No, All live butterflies are delivered in a specially designed, insulated container with a cold pack. The individual triangular boxes actually protect their fragile wings from damage and keep the butterfly calm and healthy until their release.
